Jake Gold finishes T4 at the Valley View Open

The Utah golf community enjoyed top tier golf this past week with both the Korn Ferry Tour in town and the Valley View Open just down the road. Team Trono member Jake Gold, who recently transferred to Weber State University from Southwestern Oregon Community College, just so happened to take part in both events.

The greens were rolling like glass, as typical for the par 72 track. Even so, the prestigious event couldn't faze a competitive field of over 150 amateurs and local professionals. Among the stiff competition was Team Trono member Jake Gold, who earlier in the week tried his luck in the Korn Ferry Tour Monday Qualifier. Despite a quick turnaround from the qualifier to the Open, he displayed impressive resilience with an opening round 70 (even with a two-over start through six holes).

Going into day two of the event, Gold sat 13th on the leader board and six shots back of leader Cooper Cannon. After a slow start, momentum shifted as Gold finished the front nine two-under par and duplicated another 34 on the back nine for an overall score of six-under. This result gave Jake the Flight 2 victory and carried him to a T4 overall finish (leading all professionals in the event).

Up next on Jake's schedule is the Utah Open Qualifier at Soldier Hollow Golf Course on August 12th, followed by the Utah Open itself given a successful qualification. He also anticipates a return to Valley View for the Club Championship at the end of the month.
